December 26 – Soul Food
What did you eat this year that you will never forget? What went into your mouth & touched your soul?

Oh a few things, actually.
1. JJ’s birthday, in October, with two of our friends at chef Shannon Bennett’s Vue de Monde. Yes, pretty much the most expensive meal I’ve ever had, but it was a feast for the eyes and stomach. One of the bizarre and beautiful courses came at the end of the meal. One of many desserts, there’s a little jar of sherbet sticks to dip into the “ash” and mango cigarette butts.
Beautiful and reminiscent of Heston Blumenthal’s crazy meals.
2. Last night at Miss Lolo’s place. She has a funky apartment in the city overlooking the botanical garden, the Arts Centre and the Shrine.
Her place is filled with memories from her travels, most of them with her pal, Marky Mark, who was also there last night. There was no formal dinner, just good cheese, soy marinated chicken rib “drumsticks” (yes, chicken ribs!), heaps of wine, champagne, Christmas pudding with custard, and homemade trifle. AND a couple of episodes of Mad Men. Was it the food? Sure; but it was really all about the relaxed company, good conversation and a comfy lounge. Awesome!
